I created this eclectic blend of nyahbinghi reggae soul, inspired by my gospel and reggae musical influences and experiences. I chose to digitally recreate the infamous Trinity of Nyahbinghi drums, fendi, keté and the "Pope Smasher" which is the bass drum hit with a mallet mimicking a thunderous sky smashing down Space Pope Babylon.
I wanted to give the listener the feeling of chanting down corruption, around a fire creating our own church, rejoicing from daily struggles that trap the mind, body and soul. I added some bouncy synths to give it a climactic and dramatic feel of urgency.
The bass line was a first time experience of a digital midi bass that carried the spirit of the track, ricochetting of the pope smasher. This sound gives me childhood memories of my father playing upright bass every rising to wake us for the day.
The premise of this song is a range for deep thinkers of killing of the ego, self-empowerment, motivating all people including the youth to question everything. To use limitless critical thinking to raise awareness and consciousness beyond ideological doctrines is the message I hope to convey in my creation sounds.
